   Intel's Core i7 970 gets its price cut to $605, Core i7 960 available for $315

The success of the Sandy Bridge architecture has caught up with some of Intel's fastest chips, over the course of the weekend the Santa Clara-based company cutting the prices for two of their fastest processors on the market, the Core i7 960 and the hexa-core Core i7 970.

Although the price cut has not been made official by Intel, the KitGuru website found that, in the UK, the two processors are listed way below their previous recommended prices.

As the same website reports, the Core i7 960, which was previously available for £460, has had its price reduced to £240, a whopping 48 percent lower than before.

Similarly, Intel has dropped the price of the Core i7 970 processor from £700 to £450, which translates into a 64% price reduction.

Furthermore, this trend seems to have made its way into the US too, as a quick price search has revealed the Core i7 970 listed for as low as $605.99, while the Core i7 960 can now be purchased for $315.99. Both are in stock and are available for shipping.

The Core i7 960 was launched in the forth quarter of 2009, is clocked at 3.2GHz and features four physical cores as well as support for Intel's Hyper-Threading technology.

Its TDP is rated at 130W and packs Turbo Core support as well as a tri-channel memory controller.

The same 3.2GHz clock speed is also used by the Core i7 970, but this chip features a six-core design and 12MB of L3 cache, instead of the 8MB found in the Core i7 960.

If you decide to buy one of the two CPUs please bear in mind that not all retailers have yet updated their prices, so you may need to do a bit of digging around before committing to buy.
