Gulftown to launch in March

Intel has already scored quite big after its introduction of the Pine Trail mobile platform and, some time after, the central processing units with integrated graphics. While the Santa Clara company does not seem intent on unleashing another wave of releases, smaller splashes are still imminent, with the next one recently revealed to be coming in March. While this is not exactly breaking news, ocworkbench seems to have gotten its hand on some information that claims to reveal the exact roadmap for Intel's products that are scheduled for launch during the first two quarters of 2010.

The report implies that the chip giant is gearing up to release multiple processors, not just the fabled six-core Gulftown. One of the newcomers will be the Core i7 930, an LGA 1366 central processing unit with a clock speed of 2.80 GHz. The processor will supposedly come out on February 28th and have a price tag of $284.

Next up is the highly anticipated, aforementioned six-core, the Core i7 980X with speeds of 3.33 GHz. This processor will be priced at $999 and will be followed by the 3.6 GHz Core i5 680 (in mid-May, for about $284).

The report also states that the processor maker already has an extra set of chips planned for release after the Gulftown. One is a quad-core 3.06 GHz chip, known as the Core i7 880, with the other being the Core i3 550 dual-core at 3.2 GHz. These two processors will supposedly debut during the second quarter, at prices of $562 and $133, respectively.

Afterwards, the company will release, in the third quarter of 2010, the Core i7 970. This will supposedly be a toned-down version of the six-core Gulftown, with a clock speed of 3.2 GHz. Its price is estimated at around $563.

Of course, this report is to be taken with one or two grains of salt, as all reports should.
