Defintely the name of the game for Intel is wireless. Just shortly after Nokia and Intel had announced a partnership for WiMAX, Intel officials will announce today a unified WiFi solution.
According to media reports, Intel have created a chip which support three 802.11 wireless broadband standards: 802.11a, b and g.
This progress will mean a lot to
wireless industry, because the possibility to combine three standards on a single chip will reduce costs for mobile devices. And the cost is not the only issue. User also will benefit for a better battery life for mobile devices which will use this chip.
Krishnamurthy Soumyanath, Intel communications circuits research lab director said in a statement about this launch: "The variable bandwidth of this solution extends capabilities beyond today's 20MHz to 100MHz and is expected to support data rates higher than 100 megabits per second that should allow people to enjoy multiple high-quality video streams concurrently".
Intel says the device in the research paper integrates a 5 GHz CMOS power amplifier that meets all the spectral purity and non-interference requirements from the FCC, while frequency planning techniques minimize interference caused by the on-die amplifier.
