Intel has partnered up with VMware in an attempt to provide organizations which rely on cloud computing solutions that can properly protect cloud data and datacenters.

As a result, Intel’s Trusted Execution Technology (TXT) will be combined with VMWare’s vSphere 5.1. These products should ensure that the companies can deliver a “platform for trusted cloud.”

Experts are comparing the difference between classic and cloud computing to living in a home or living in an apartment complex.

While in a house (classic business datacenters) the owner has the ability to properly ensure that the perimeter is protected, in an apartment (cloud datacenter) there are more variables, and implicitly more things that could go wrong.

In the cloud everything is shared, and as a recent survey conducted by Intel shows, professionals have expressed their concerns about the fact that they can’t properly control everything that goes on from a security standpoint.

Both sides seem to agree that the combination of solutions could represent the answer to a lot of security issues.

“Intel TXT provides hardware enforcement to help overcome some of the most challenging aspects of cloud security, including detection and prevention of bios attacks and evolving forms of stealthy malware, such as rootkits,” Jason Waxman, general manager of Intel Cloud Infrastructure Group, explained.

“VMware vSphere 5.1 support of TXT is essential to building a foundation of trust in virtualized infrastructures and the cloud and is ready for deployment.”

On the other hand, Bogomil Balkansky, senior vice president of Cloud Infrastructure Products at VMware, said, “VMware is pleased to partner with Intel to support Intel TXT in VMware vSphere® 5.1.”

He added, “The combined capabilities bring a trusted security solution for cloud environments. With VMware vSphere 5.1 and Intel TXT, we are empowering our customers to have the confidence to put their sensitive data and business-critical workloads in the cloud.”
