The two will work on security, efficiency and new standards

Aside from collaborating with one of the leading systems makers for its first hardware product, Oracle, the 3rd biggest software maker, has recently announced that it will enter a partnership with the Santa-Clara, California-based company in order to develop software to accelerate the adoption of cloud computing. The concept behind the newly announced collaboration is to deliver better and more secure solutions to allow companies to build IT services, which they can make available over the Internet.

Cloud computing is of major interest for most of today's leading software and hardware companies, which only makes Oracle's involvement all the more explainable. The two companies will work on strengthening virtual machine security in a shared cloud environment.

“Oracle understands that enterprises would like the flexibility of choosing to run their enterprise systems in either private or public clouds, but in order to do that, cloud computing needs to be highly efficient, secure and standards based,” said Robert Shimp, group vice president, Oracle Global Technology Business Unit. “Intel and Oracle are collaborating to make this happen.” Shimp further stated.

Oracle and Intel will cooperate to ensure the efficiency and the security of cloud computing platforms, and to deliver new standards to them. As Intel will develop better and more efficient server platforms, Oracle will try to optimize its software to achieve better performance levels and power efficiency gains. In the security area, both companies will try to ensure that customer data is protected, as the virtualization environment evolves. Furthermore, Intel and Oracle will develop and extend standards that make virtualization easier to adopt by the general public.

“Intel and Oracle are taking a leadership role to expand the reach of enterprise-ready cloud computing,” said Doug Fisher, vice president, Software and Solutions Group (SSG), and general manager of SSG's Systems Software Division at Intel Corporation. “By collaborating to improve efficiency, extend standards and enhance security, we're making cloud computing more of an option for enterprise deployments.”
