Intel and Apple, total DRM control?

What hides beneath Jobs's smile?

Following Steve Jobs's announcement at the WDC on June 6, we all know now that Apple will use Intel CPUs in its computer systems.

This IT earthquake leaves room for a lot of assumptions, and we'll try to discuss them briefly.

First of all, does
the fact that Mac OSX is being ported to Intel CPUs mean it will also run on AMD processors? After all, they share the same x86 architecture, so natively running Mac OS X on regular PCs may become more than a dream.

Another statement Jobs made was that Apple will completely move to Intel processors before 2007, sometime during 2006. This means an x86-compatible Mac OSX version will be released in the same year, which, strangely enough (or not), coincides with Microsoft's new operating system's launch date (codenamed Longhorn). The reader should draw further conclusions.

And last but not least, considering Apple is such a big fan of DRM (Digital Rights Management) and Intel chips are now implementing this technology is it possible that Jobs is planning to control all the Mac users' music and video files?

(1) The fact that Apple is going to use Intel as a supplier *might not* actually mean x86 chips. I'm not saying they aren't using x86, I'm just pointing out an unwarranted assumption.

(2) Apple is a big fan of DRM? I'm no Apple expert, but as far as I am aware the only "Apple DRM" anywhere is on iTunes. DRM is a mandatory condition imposed by the RIAA upon *all* music services, so it hardly indicates any Apple oppinion either way. If anything Apple appears to be opposed to DRM. I recall a Steve Jobs interview where he said he was arguing with the RIAA about how stupid DRM was.

Must agree with you there dummyforbugmenot, during WWDC, Steve NEVER said anything about OS X running on X86, or even PC mother boards, just Intel processors. I believe Apple will still make its own logic boards and chip sets and fit them with Intels chips, they may not even be the same ones as the WinTel folk use.
