Even though Intel has delayed the launch of the desktop Sandy Bridge-E processors to Q1 2012, server CPUs based on this architecture are still expected to ship at the end of this year, and one such chip was already spotted online.

The LGA 2011 processor is identified by CPU-Z and HWiNFO tools as an eight-core chip, with support for Intel's HyperThreading technology, and comes clocked at 2.3GHz, while its maximum Turbo frequency is set at 2.5GHz.

In addition, the unnamed CPU packs 20MB of Level 3 cache memory, has a core voltage of 1.016V, and is compatible with the SSE4.1/4.2, VT-x, AES and AVX instruction sets.

The Xeon E5 processor line will comprise two series, the E5-1600 and E5-2600, and both of these carry a similar feature set, but the latter can also be used in dual-socket servers.

From the information available at this point in time, we know that the CPUs will support between four and eight processing cores with TDPs ranging from 50W to 95W, and all the technologies that come standard with the Sandy Bridge architecture, except for the on-die graphics core.

Outside of the 20MB L3 cache that is also present on the CPU spotted online, the processors also include up to 2 QPI links, 40 PCIe Gen3 lanes, 4 DMI 2.0 lanes, and an integrated quad-channel DDR3 memory controller that support up to three DIMMs per channel for a maximum of 96GB.

According to the Siluhd website, the source of this leak, this is not the only Sandy Bridge-E engineering sample in their possession.

As mentioned earlier, the Xeon E5-1600 and E5-2600 processors will be available in the fourth quarter of this year, while the first desktop Sandy Bridge-E models will arrive in Q1 2012. (via Expreview)
