While Advanced Micro Devices is preparing to slash Trinity APU prices, Intel is setting up a general update to its Xeon series of server/supercomputer processors.
Between March and May 2013 (the next two months and ten days), Intel will updated the Xeon E3, E5 and E7 series of CPUs.
The first Xeon E3-1200 Haswell CPUs will launch at the same time as the first desktop Haswell units.
13 different models will be released between May 27 and June 7, divided into a bunch of standard-TDP units and low-power chips. Some will have on-chip graphics, others will not.
CPU World gave the following list: Xeon E3-1220 v3, E3-1225 v3, E3-1230 v3, E3-1240 v3, E3-1245 v3, E3-1270 v3, E3-1275 v3, E3-1280 v3 and E3-1285 v3 (all standard power), E3-1220L v3, E3-1230L v3, E3-1265L v3 and E3-1285L (low power).
The E3-12x5 v3 models are the ones with on-chip graphics.
After that will come the E5-2600 family (for dual-chip servers, Q3 release). All of them will be Ivy Bridge-EP units (socket 2011).
Second-generation Xeon E7 CPUs are currently scheduled for Q4 2013.
That leaves Xeon E5-4600 v2 CPUs (also Ivy Bridge-EP, but quad-CPU servers), which will arrive in Q1 2014.
Finally, socket 1356 E5-2400 v2 "Ivy Bridge-EN" are set for the same period.
