Intel plans to improve photo-snapping capabilities in tablets/Ultrabooks

Intel has presented the 3D RealSense system back at CES 2014 in Las Vegas this January and now the chip company has announced it will be integrating the technology in future tablets and Ultrabooks powered by Intel chips.

RealSense is pretty similar to the dual-camera system we saw arrive with the latest HTC flagship One M8. The technology allows users to take depth-photos and also provides the height of objects placed in the photographs (via MobileGeeks).

RealSense uses the dual-cameras to take a full-resolution image and another full-depth image and by superimposing them offers a realistic 3D effect on the photo. A dual camera is capable of simulating something that mobile devices never had until now, which is the big glass lens found on DSLRs.

Intel also mentioned it will add gesture control to the system. Apart from that we don’t really know the specifications of the cameras arriving on future tablets and laptops.

But in the past, Intel’s cameras have managed to impress by showing they are capable of many interesting feats, including pupil and eye tracking.

As exciting as this sounds, we can’t help but wonder how much the implementation of this system will bump prices for the upcoming models.
