Although only one week passed since Intel has announced its support for HD-DVD, it seems that the company is also growing fond of Blu-Ray.

The online edition of MacWorld cites a statement made by Donald MacDonald, Intel's general manager of the Digital Home Group, in which he said that Intel is willing to back the Blu-Ray format as well, provided that the organization introduces the "managed copy" feature.

The statement was allegedly made during CEATEC Japan, but Intel's officials have refused to comment on MacDonald's declaration.

Microsoft and Intel have justified their decision to join the HD-DVD format by saying that this format implies lower production costs and it allows creating backup copies.

Intel even outlined that the HD-DVD format is more compatible with the VIIV technology the company is planning to introduce.

Microsoft's and Intel's support was an important victory for Toshiba and the HD-DVD format, but the alliance's joy didn't last for long, as Paramount announced it has decided to dump HD-DVD and support the Blu-Ray format instead.
