Although we are approaching an inevitable release of Intel's next-generation Nehalem-based Core i5 processors, the Santa Clara, California-based chip maker appears to have grown really attached to its previous Core architecture, which it has made good use of in its latest processors. On that note, Chipzilla has announced today the introduction of three new Core 2 Duo CPUs, as well as a new low-power processor, part of the company's growing line of CULV chips. In addition, Intel also introduced a new chipset that would also enable system vendors to design more ultra-thin laptops with enhanced energy efficiency.

“With an ultra-thin laptop powered by Intel ultra-low voltage processors, consumers experience a unique balance of performance and power consumption that is incomparable in the market today – all in a slim, sleek package,” said Mooly Eden, vice president and general manager of the Mobile Platforms Group at Intel. “And at mainstream price points, Intel is proud to deliver ultra thin for all.”

Intel's new Core 2 Duo processors take performance to a new level, with the new T9900 offering a core speed of 3.06GHz. In addition to the high-end Core 2 Duo CPU, the company also unveiled the new P9700 and P8800 chips, which will probably make up for the last of its Core 2 Duo lineup, as the world's leading chip maker is preparing for the much anticipated release of the Core i5 series.

In addition to these new models, Intel also announced the new Pentium SU2700 chip, which has been clocked at 1.3GHz and has been designed as an alternative processor for the upcoming wave of ultrathin portable computer systems, adopting Intel's expanding CULV platform. Aside from the new 1.3GHz chip, the manufacturer also announced the new GS40 Express Chipset, which comes as a scaled-down, lower-power alternative to the company's GS45.

Unfortunately, Intel hasn't yet revealed the specific details regarding the pricing and availability of its new chips, but we expect a good number of devices to take advantage of these solutions in the near future.
