No launch going to happen at Computex 2015

Intel was supposed to release the next generation of central processing units this June, but a new report says this won't happen and, instead, the company will hold the launch a couple of months later.

To be fair, it was never really clear when Intel would release the Skylake series of desktop central processing units.

Oh, there were some roadmap slides that made their way to the Internet, but they only displayed the plans in vague terms, with Skylake set for launch during the early second half of 2015.

Over the past few months, forecasts have been swinging this way and that, with some saying that Skylake would come out in early third quarter, and some saying later.

There was even a rather unbelievable rumor about the chips being set for launch in the second quarter, not the third one, which would have put it in the first half of 2015.

The new ETA

The Intel Skylake series of desktop central processing units is set for official launch in August now, the eighth month of the year.

As opposed to being unveiled in June, during the Computex trade show, an event which takes place in Taipei, Taiwan every year.

The new information comes from sources in the motherboard supply chain, as quoted by DigiTimes website.

That means that all mainboard makers who intended to introduce their products at Computex 2015 have to postpone their releases now as well.

The particulars of the Skylake CPU series

Skylake is a codename applied to the next line of high-end desktop processing units, the new Core i3, Core i5 and Core i7 CPUs.

They are all, or will be, built using the 14 nm fabrication process technology and will be paired with the 10-series chipsets. The TDP will be of up to 95W, with the core count being of six or eight, as well as four and two for the lower levels.

DDR4 memory will, of course, be supported just like on the Haswell-E extreme performance collection.

As for the chipsets, they bring extra PCI Express lanes compared to Z97, and up to 10 USB ports to the table (6 standard right now).
