The iGP in the Core series of processors will get faster this month

Intel will release a new series of CPUs in June, called Haswell, which will have integrated graphics chips with twice the performance of the HD 4000 in the Ivy Bridge.

That's still a long way off though, which is why Intel figured it wouldn't hurt to boost its existing iGPs a bit.

What Chipzilla did was prepare a graphics update for the HD 4000 iGP, one that optimizes power use (thus extending battery life in notebooks) and improves performance by 10%.

In Windows, the update utility can check for and install firmware update. Manual downloads should be possible too, but don't go looking for them yet because Intel hasn't released the package.

Owners of MacBook Air and MacBook Pro laptops might have to wait even longer. Intel made no comment as to when the HD 4000 iGP would get Apple iOS-compatible driver updates.
