Even though the official website has not yet been updated, it appears that Intel has added a new member to the X25-M G2 series of solid state drives, one that, of course, uses Intel's own SSD controller.

It is more or less well known that SandForce powers many of the more popular SSDs on the market right now, mostly because its controllers have a write speed just slightly lower than the read speed.

Currently, SandForce is busy promoting both its old and new series of SSD controller chips, the SF-2000 line, which supports high transfer speeds thanks to support for SATA 6.0 Gbps.

Still, the other companies that have come up with their own controllers are definitely not going to just cop out, especially no when they are massive IT giants bent on achieving success.

On that note, Santa Clara, California-based Intel has also been promoting its SSDs, based on, of course, the Intel Controller.

Its most recent move in this field, as revealed by reports and apparently confirmed by Intel Itself, was the unleashing of a new member for the so-called Postville family.

The new SSDs is an X25-M G2 drive whose full name is SSDSA2MH120G2K5 and which boasts the 2.5-inch form factor.

It is a sibling to the two existing models, whose internal capacities are of 80GB and 120GB, respectively.

It is built out of MLC (multi-level cell) NAND Flash memory chips, all of which are constructed on the 34nm manufacturing process technology.

As for actual performance, the writing speed may be limited to 'just' 70 MB/s, but the read speed reaches 250 MB/s.

Finally, as one may have suspected, the newcomer connects to the rest of the PC through the SATA 3.0 Gbps interface.

The Intel X25-M G2 SSDSA2MH120G2K5 can, supposedly, already be found on sale with a price of 210 Euro.
