At the Intel developer Forum, the biggest central processing unit and related computer chips manufacturing company, Intel, presented its high performance mainboard based on the upcoming X38 chipset. The Intel DX38BT 'BoneTrail' motherboard is a solution aimed at replacing the aging D975XBX2 "Bad Axe 2" mainboard in the gaming and enthusiast market segments.

The Intel DX38BT 'BoneTrail' motherboard is expected to be launched soon, at the same time with the X38 chipset and it will integrate such a chip. Apart from the Intel X38 Express chipset this mainboard will provide native support for all incoming Intel central processing units as well as for some of the already existing processors.

Among the supported processing units there are the Intel Duo, Quad and Extreme versions of the dual and quad core processors which are made using the 45 nanometer fabrication process, while supporting an official frontside bus speed of 1333MHz as well as dual channel DDR3 random access memory. On the DDR3 memory department the BoneTrail will also integrate the Intel Fast Memory Access technology and the Intel ICH9 southbridge.

An interesting thing about this Intel mainboard is that it is made to support both PCI Express 1.1 and PCI Express 2.0 at the same time, as some parts for the board are using the older standard while others are making the most of the increased speed and bandwidth. 12 high speed USB 2.0 ports are also present and six additional PCI Express 1.1 lanes are also integrated for use with different add-on cards, while the network interfaces, two of them, are using the PCI Express 2.0 standard for faster speeds and better overall system responsiveness.

Like all new Intel mainboards, this one too will be compatible with ATI's multi graphics cards setups known as CrossFire, but without support for SLI technology. On the storage department the BoneTrail will come with six internal Serial ATA II ports and Intel Maxtrix Storage Technology for RAID setups.

The news site mb-blog reports that Intel is going to launch these mainboards on the 10th of October so gamers and enthusiasts will not have to wait too much to get one of these. This new line of mainboards comes with many changes over the previous generation of products aimed at gamers and the like, as even the Intel logo that is applied on the mainboard was changed and it now features a grinning skull.
