According to leaked confidential Intel document

Over the past recent months, an ongoing battle between NVIDIA and Intel has made the headlines, as both companies are trying to prove their products are better than those of the competition. Just recently, a series of new, leaked slides of confidential Intel documents have surfaced on the Internet, adding more fuel on a fire that is burning significantly hot. According to these documents, Intel is basically claiming platforms based on its GM45 series of chipsets can provide users with a better overall performance and a longer battery life than NVIDIA's MCP79MVL chipset.

The 7-page document offers a number of performance reports, as measured in Intel's own labs, putting the GM45 chipset in a head-to-head competition with NVIDIA's MCP79MVL. According to the former and the details provided in the leaked document, notebooks built on the GM45 Express Chipsets provide a better overall performance in comparison to systems that are featured with the latter's MCP79MVL. In addition, Intel also claims that its own solution delivers better battery life, by comparison with NVIDIA's platforms.

The document continues by claiming that Intel's GM45 chipset offers a better quality for DVD playback over the MCP79MVL, according to the measurements taken by the Hollywood Quality Video (HQV). Basically, out of a maximum possible score of 130, the GM45-equipped notebook scores 120, while the MCP79MVL notebook is only good for a score of about 90+.

Interestingly enough, Intel admits that NVIDIA's graphics solution is better when dealing with 3D graphics for gaming applications, but argues that the GM45 chipset is meant to offer the 3D performance required by mainstream users. This claim is accompanied by a slide showing the performance levels achieved by the two solutions in 3DMark06 and 3DMark Vantage.

This isn't the first time Intel confidential documents trashing NVIDIA's products have been leaked on the Internet. Late in February the former picked on the latter's Ion, a platform that uses the Atom processor and a GeForce motherboard GPU to enable a performance-capable PC inside a small package.
