It's heavier than the one before it, but does have its benefits

The Next Unit of Computing mini PC from Intel is the sort of system that you can't really reconfigure much, but whose case you can change fairly easily, simply because Intel got more than one case maker on board.

The latest NUC chassis has been released by Akasa and is made of aluminum, with a brushed aluminum front.

Being made of metal and shaped in such a way as to double as a heatsink for the hardware within, the newcomer isn't the lightest NUC case in the world.

Specifically, it weighs 1.27 kg / 2.80 pounds, while measuring 150 x 185 x 47 mm / 5.90 x 7.28 x 1.85 inches.

Inside, you'll find a 2.5-inch drive bay (for whatever HDD or SSD you equip the NUC with).

The Akasa Newton X also boasts a pair of holes for Wi-Fi antennas, a USB infrared receiver, two front-panel USB 3.0 connectors, and a Kensington lock slot.

Moreover, the Newton X supports VESA mounts, allowing it to be installed at the back of monitors or on a wall.

All in all, as long as your NUC is based on the Intel D54250WYB or D34010WYB motherboard, you're all set. It's a shame that the price hasn't been disclosed yet.
