Price cuts are always an interesting subject, as they allow a user to acquire better products for less money than under normal circumstances. This holds true regardless of the manufacturer's reasons for it. However, if you're on the lookout for another price cut session for NVIDIA's GeForce lineup, then you have another think coming. This time around, Intel is basking in the spotlight for having lowered the prices for seven models of its CPU lineup.

The seven models include both the company's consumer and business-oriented processors, with the price cuts being somewhere in the 11%-31% range. What is interesting is that these discounts are said to be one of the company's measures against the upcoming Phenom series. Apparently, Intel is not that confident that its current processor lineup will enjoy the same success after AMD launches the new Phenom processors. Then again, as already stated above, price cuts are all the better for computer users, irrespective of Intel's reasons.

At a closer look at the new price cuts, we will see that the dual-core E8500 is the only one of the lot that comes at a significantly lower price. Users will now be able to acquire one of these CPUs for as little as $183, which is with a 31% cut from the original price of $266. The company's most successful mainstream quad-core processor, the Q6600, is now rated at $193, which is 14% off the $224 initial price tag. The prices for the dual-core E8400 and E7200 have also been lowered by as much as 11% and 15%, respectively.

As regards servers, the quad-core X3220 Xeon processor is now one of Intel's best deals. After a 12% off the initial tag, this CPU has reached a price point of $198. The other two Xeon processors that have suddenly become more affordable are the X3210 and the E3110. They are also quad-cores and have had their prices lowered by 12% and 11%, respectively.
