Intel Corp. recently launched its latest chipset series, the formerly codenamed Broadwater - now called Intel 965 Express - chipset, developed especially for platforms which feature the manufacturer's famous Intel Core 2 Duo processors, as it can support high-speed PC2-6400 (800MHz) DDR2 memory, informs X-bit Labs.

"There is a tremendous amount of excitement and anticipation for our forthcoming server, desktop and notebook processors based on the Core micro-architecture. The message to the industry is simple: We are bringing a massive amount of new products and technologies to the market starting today that will change the game in terms of what technology can do for you", said Anand Chandrasekher, Intel senior vice president and general manager, sales and marketing group.

Up until now, the manufacturer unveiled only the P965 core-logic, which presents a P965 memory controller hub (MCH) and ICH8 I/O controller hub. Unfortunately, Intel's latest MCH cannot support the technology which allows a faster data transfer rate between the processor and the memory system.

This is why Intel P965 MCH can work with only one PCI Express x16 graphics card, as it also supports dual-channel DDR2 memory up to 800MHz (PC2-6400), and microprocessors with a 533MHz, 800MHz or 1066MHz system bus.

The site also informs about the manufacturer's latest ICH8, which, even if it cannot support Paralel ATA natively, can offer the perfect support for 10 USB 2.0 ports, 6 Serial ATA ports, 4 PCI slots, 6 PCI Express x1 ports, Intel Gigabit Ethernet, high definition audio support, Intel quiet system technology (fan speed control) and much more.

It seems that Intel's 965 chipset series will represent the perfect alternative for all systems featuring the already famous Intel 2 Duo processors and the Intel vPro technology or Intel Viiv technology supporting platforms.

Intel's representatives revealed that, later this year, the manufacturer will release new chipsets such as Intel Q965, which was especially developed for multimedia enabled computers, and the Intel G965 core-logic, which features a built-in graphics core.
