It's not the best clock ever attained, but it's close enough, to say the least

There are some motherboards that are made specifically for people who want to overclock the living lights out of their CPUs or memory, or both. The ASRock Z97 OC Formula is one of them.

Sure, you can use it in gaming systems or just if you want a PC that can leave your guests poleaxed through sheer awesomeness, but the OC in the name isn't there just for kicks.

Case in point, the Core i7-4790K high-end CPU from Intel has been pushed to 7003.38 MHz, taking first place on HWBOT.org.

And yes, before you ask, the chip is one of the Intel Devil's Canyon Haswell-K unlocked models that Chipzilla released just a couple weeks back.

A pretty famous overclocker by the name of Nick Shih is the one that attained that (relatively) stable performance level.

It's not the world record of 7181.23 MHz and 1601 marks in Intel XTU achieved by John Lam last week, but it's pretty close.

The XXL Aluminum Alloy Heatsink, Dual-Stack MOSFET (efficient CPU Vcore power), and NexFET MOSFET (efficient DRAM power and resistance against electrostatic discharge up to 15KV) are just some of the overclocking assets installed on the ASRock Z97 OC Formula. You can see the mainboard in the photo above.
