It thinks its third quarter revenue will be about one billion lower

Intel started its announcement, the one meant to notify the world of the fact that it has reduced its financial outlook for the third quarter of 2012, with a particularly vague sentence.

Chipzilla expects to make $13.2 billion, plus or minus $300 million, not $14.8 billion (or $13.8 billion, if one is especially cautious).

That means that, instead of 1.08 billion-1.16 billion Euro, Intel thinks it will only manage 1.03 billion Euro in the July-September period.

The IT company blames it all on “weaker than expected demand in a challenging macroeconomic environment,” although it did specify that enterprise PCs and emerging market sales were a bit on the soft side.

The data center business is the only one not causing problems at this point in time.

All things considered, one billion isn't such a huge loss for one of the greatest IT players in the world. Still, a revision like this can raise interesting questions when thinking about the success, or lack thereof, of certain endeavors on Intel's part.
