The Linux version is cheaper than the Windows one

A Softpedia user has brought to our attention that the Intel Compute Stick mini computer, which was unveiled by Intel at CES 2015 back in January, is now available for pre-order on several retail websites, including Amazon, Newegg, and Zones.

Intel Compute Stick is one of the most anticipated computer-on-a-stick devices for 2015, and it is our great pleasure to inform you that you can pre-order both the Linux and Windows models from various retail websites. The device will be shipped to customers later this month or at the beginning of May 2015.

As expected, the Ubuntu version of Intel Compute Stick is with $50 (€45) cheaper than the Windows model. Some retail sites are selling the Intel Compute Stick device with Linux for as cheap as $100 (€90). The Windows model costs about $150 (€), but you will get 2GB or RAM and 32GB of storage.

The hardware specifications of the Intel Compute Stick device

Intel Compute Stick is a tiny computer that you plug into the HDMI port of an LCD or TV, which will be immediately transformed into a full-featured desktop powered by either Linux (Ubuntu) or Microsoft Windows operating systems. You can carry it in your pocket and have a really portable computer at hand whenever needed.

The Intel Compute Stick device is quite powerful, as it comes with a quad-core Intel Atom Z3735F CPU running at 1.33GHz (it can be boosted at 1.83GHz), 1GB of RAM for the Ubuntu version and 2GB of RAM for the Windows model, full-sized HDMI out, a MicroUSB port, a USB 2.0 port, a MicroSD card slot, Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n, and Bluetooth 4.0.

Please note that while the Windows version of the Intel Compute Stick has 32GB of eMMC storage, the Ubuntu model of has only 8GB of eMMC storage. However, the Intel Compute Stick device with Ubuntu will cost you with $50 less than the model that boasts the Microsoft Windows 8.1 operating system.
