Even though Intel already has platforms for more or less every one of its business outlets, it is developing the next generations as quickly as it can, one of them, apparently, being tied to the fate of Microsoft's Windows 8.

Ever so slowly, some small scraps of information find their way to the Internet about matters that, by all intents and purposes, were not supposed to even be known about until much later.

On the matter of central processing units, it is actually quite common for the worldwide web to be supplied, through whatever means, with data on upcoming chips, and the same goes for all other hardware components.

Being the prime supplier of CPUs, Intel, naturally, ends up somehow leaking details on what it has on the roadmap.

One of the most recent rumors has to do with the mobile platform it is developing, one that will replace the Oak Trail.

It is dubbed Clover Trail and, once it arrives, should start powering tablets of all kinds (media slates, convertibles, tablet PCs), laptops, etc.

Regrettably, none of the specifications of either the chipset or the CPU is known, except the name of the latter (Cloverview) and the fact it is designed on the 32nm manufacturing process technology.

Either way, in order to shine, Cloverview will have to match ARM offers not just performance-wise, but also in terms of power efficiency.

That said, even though the newest report has no specs or anything of the sort, it does give a vague estimate of when Clover Trail will debut.

Apparently, Intel decided to coordinate the launch with that of Microsoft's Windows 8 Operating System, so one can look forward to seeing them get released around the same time.

All that is left is to see how it matches up with the likes of Kal El, NVIDIA's upcoming quad-core Tegra 3 platform, as well as what follows.
