Intel has had five chief executive officers so far, and now it is ready to welcome its sixth leader. The new head is none other than Brian Krzanich.

It was a while ago that Paul Otellini said he would leave in the second quarter of the year (2013).

Now, he is ready to step down from his post. He will do it on May 16.

Krzanich has been Intel's COO (chief operating officer) since January 2012, and has worked in leadership positions at Intel since he joined in 1982.

He has overseen the workings of Intel’s Technology and Manufacturing Group, Intel Custom Foundry, NAND Solutions group, Human Resources, Information Technology and Intel’s China strategy.

All in all, he has been responsible for 50,000 employees. Now, he will be overseeing them all.

Meanwhile, Renee James, 48, has become president of Intel. She will assume the post on the same day (May 16) and will be part of the executive office under Krzanich.
