Although Intel announced last month that the launch of the Intel "Montevina" Centrino 2 mobile platform would be delayed, it seems that the processors would be rolled out by the company on the initial date, July 14. Glimpses of the upcoming mobile processors can already be taken at some resellers.
Intel stated last month that only "processors and some of the chipsets" would be
made available in the first place. Other Montevina chips will be delayed due to technical and certification issues with Intel's integrated graphics and Wi-Fi silicon, respectively.
The "GM" chipset, which features Intel integrated graphics, is included in the list of delayed Intel products. The silicon is expected to hit the market sometime in early August. As for WiMax silicon, which is also known to be later rolled out, Intel did not unveil a specific launch date.
Yet, mainstream processors are announced to be on the market in due time.
We have already presented the
Toshiba Qosmio G55 mobile PC which, along with some other laptops, including HP's 6930p, is expected to hit the market featuring a new Intel mobile processor.
The Intel Core 2 Duo T9600 featuring a 2.8GHz core clock is available at select retailers. The processor has been built using the 45nm manufacturing process and features a 6MB of cache memory and a 1066MHz front-side-bus (FSB). The processor rises above the current ones on the market which have only a 800MHz FSB. Data is carried between the processor and the chipset through the front-side-bus.
This silicon is expected to become the fastest mainstream (non-Extreme) Core 2 Duo mobile chip from Intel. The processor should have a reseller price ranging between $570 and $615, yet Intel list prices will differ.
Resellers will also receive Intel's new P series. The P9500 appeared on reseller Web sites quite a while ago. The chip features a 2.53GHz clock speed and steps in front due to its thermal envelope, which makes it more power efficient than current mainstream Intel mobile processors. While the former features a Thermal Design Power (TDP) of 25 watts, the latter have a TDP of 35 watts. The P9500 chip also has 6MB of cache and a 1066MHz FSB. The entire P series chips is generally said to come along with a lower TDP than the T series.
Resellers also list the 2.4GHz P8600, which appears as "backordered", and the 2.26GHz P8400.
From the "Extreme" mobile processors series, only a couple of resellers are listing the Intel Core 2 Duo Extreme X9100 chip. The CPU features a 3.06GHz clock speed, which makes its TDP go as high as 44 watts.
Intel also announced that it would launch new ultra-low-power processors later on this year.
