It seems that Intel is definitely looking to expand on the mobile front as it chose to make a step forward on the software side of things by acquiring a certain private company based in Cairo, Egypt.

On any industry, the easiest way to expand in a certain area, or to gain the resources needed for a certain step, provided one has enough financial backing, is the acquisition of another company.

Wester Digital's acquisition of Hitachi is one of the biggest deals on the IT market in recent history and has already catapulted the former well beyond its rival Seagate on the HDD market.

Now, Intel issued an official press release in which it discloses the fact that it has acquired SySDSoft, a private software company from Egypt.

The outfit is known for designing IP solution in software and physical layer domain, plus RF/analog circuits embedded in mobile platform.

“As we enter an era of multi-communication broadband solutions, Intel’s products and technologies will be important to our vision of billions of connected devices,” said Dr. Hermann Eul, president of Intel Mobile Communications.

“Intel is making the necessary investments to further enhance its existing world-class wireless product portfolio and to offer the most reliable platforms to our customers that will work seamlessly across a range of global networks.”he added.

SySDSoft's portfolio will be added to the one already owned by Intel Mobile Communications, which focuses on always-connected, energy-efficient platforms for laptops, smartphones, tablets, cars and TVs.

“The acquisition of engineering and design talent from an Egypt-based company in the field of cutting-edge wireless and communication technology is the first of its kind for Intel in the Middle East,” said Arvind Sodhani, president, Intel Capital and executive vice president, Intel.

“The acquisition shows Intel’s continued long-term strategic commitment to the region and its appreciation of its young, growing talent pool.”
