Could turn it into a netbook portal

It comes as no surprise that leading chip maker Intel takes considerable interest in the netbook market, as its Atom processor is currently featured on almost every such system on the market. As further proof of its involvement in this segment of the market, the Santa Clara, California-based company has decided to purchase website netbook.com, which it apparently plans to transform in a portal for information and details on all those netbooks out there.

Ironically, the news was first reported by notebooks.com, which informed that, after Intel purchased the domain from its previous owner for an undisclosed sum, netbook.com redirected users to Intel's home page. Now, however, turning to netbook.com will redirect you to a page called “Wireless Internet Laptop with Intel Atom,” which can also be regarded as a description for the general concept of netbooks.

The page is obviously meant to detail the company’s Atom technology and the way it can be used in portable computer systems such as netbooks. As expected, the leading chip maker emphasizes the fact that Atom-powered netbooks fare especially well when it comes to Internet browsing, a task which every other such system out there has been adapted for.

In addition, Intel also talks about the important factor of portability, as netbooks are renowned for their small, lightweight form factor that allows users to easily carry them wherever work might take them. Obviously, the website talks about other features as well, mostly related to media applications, including playing and editing movies and music.

The webpage is still in development stage but it's likely Intel will use netbook.com to its full potential, and turn it into a portal for netbooks, where users can learn more about these small devices, share their experience with them and even eventually purchase one. Now, given that this is now an Intel webpage, it's highly unlikely that you will find here details on other non-Atom netbooks.
