The mid-range smartphone has yet to be officially confirmed

Asus introduced its Zenfone lineup of Android smartphones back in January at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2014. Three handsets in the Zenfone family were confirmed by Asus for release in Q1 2014: Zenfone 4, 5 and 6.

Although none of these mid-range devices made it to the market, we have just got word that Asus plans to add one more smartphone to the Zenfone series, the Zenfone C. The unannounced device has recently been spotted by the folks over at Eeevolution.it in the Postel database.

Unfortunately, no details on the handset’s specs sheet have been leaked yet, so we can’t say if the Zenfone C is more powerful than its predecessors in the same family.

However, we suspect that Asus would want to include an Intel chipset inside, just as in the rest of the Zenfone smartphones.

Given the fact that the most affordable of the three is the Zenfone 4, which is powered by a dual-core CPU clocked at 1.2GHz, if the C model were cheaper, then it might be equipped with a much lower processor.

On the other hand, the best featured in the series is the Zenfone 6 that comes equipped with a 2GHz dual-core Intel Atom Z2580 processor, so if Zenfone C is the top-tier device in the family, that would mean slightly more power in terms of hardware. Stay tuned for more updates on the matter.
