It can't get enough talent the way things are right now

Here's a pretty unusual development: a technology company is openly expressing a political opinion. More specifically, Intel wants the United States of America to change how it goes about accepting or rejecting immigrants.

Intel is one of the major technology companies whose design and manufacturing facilities aren't located in China or some other Asian country with cheap labor.

Instead, its advanced manufacturing and R&D operations are located in the United States, particularly in Santa Clara, California.

The other day, US president Barack Obama used his executive powers to initiate a reform to the country's immigration policy.

It's not exactly taboo for a revenue-driven corporation to speak for or against a government policy, but it's not frequent either, hence why Intel's short blog post caught my attention.

Intel believes that if the president's plans work out as they are expected to, its operations will benefit. The plan includes stipulations that will “make needed, though incremental, improvements to the high-skilled visa system and help Intel employees better manage their lives and careers.”

Intel will work with the Congress to help achieve the reform's goal. Unfortunately, the corporation did not elaborate on what “working with the congress” exactly means.
