Intel 34nm-Based SSDs Benchmarked, Appreciated

As you have probably found out, Santa Clara, California-based Intel has announced early this week the introduction of its much-anticipated 34nm-based solid state drives. Despite previous rumors, the transition to the more efficient process technology has affected only Intel's mainstream X25-M series. As expected, these new drives have been said to provide users with increased performance, reduced latency and more affordable price tags. On that note, it appears that the very first reviews of the new SSDs have just been published on the Internet, providing us with some details as to what to expect from Intel's latest storage product.

 

The fellows over at PC Perspective and AnandTech are among the first to have put Intel's new SSDs through their paces, with the latter still working on the review and providing the updates as they can. According to their preliminary testing, these SSDs are everything Intel promised them to be and could just boost the SSD market to new heights, specifically due to their lower price tags.

 

According to PC Perspective, which had a chance to complete a full run of tests, the new 34nm-based SSDs from Intel show a slight improvement over their predecessors. However, when you add that to the fact that the chip maker has managed to lower the price tag of the new SSDs, you really get a deeper perspective on the hype around its latest products. The fellows over at AnandTech are yet to give the verdict, but so far they seem to appreciate Intel's achievement with the new SSDs. In their tests, the X25-M G2 is anywhere from 0% to 40% faster than the previous generation, at low-level tests. They are yet to see how the drives perform in real-world applications.

 

It would appear that Intel has done it again, rolling out a product that will seriously affect its market segment. Taking into consideration performances and pricing, the new drives could determine other SSD vendors to lower their pricing or provide better solutions.
