Intel invites hardware manufacturers to start building

It’s no secret that Intel has a particular interest for the educational sector. The chip giant seems committed to providing both software and hardware solutions to be implemented in education.

And this week, the processor giant is showing a reference tablet design, inviting manufactures to take up the endeavor of building an educational slate, reports TabletsMagazine.

Actually, the reference prototype is a 2-in-1 hybrid, basically a tablet with a keyboard dock. It’s highly unlikely that Intel will actually launch this model on the market, as it was meant to be an incentive for hardware manufacturers.

According to Intel, the reference design is capable of providing users with the flexibility and mobility of a tablet, but also the performance and productivity of a laptop.

The display can also be rotated providing an extra mode of use, the so-called presentation mode, which will come in handy in a classroom environment where students are asked to share their work.

As for specification, the 2-in-1 runs on the Intel Z3740D Bay Trail platform and bundles two cameras. According to Intel, the hybrid should provide up to 8 hours of juice, but if users add the keyboard, the life span is extended with three extra hours.

As it is going to be used by children, the tablet has been designed to be resistant to being dropped, being immersed in water and immune to dust.

The tablet has some accessories, including a snap-on magnifying lens that works in concert with the Intel Education Software suite, which includes the Intel Education Lab Camera.
