Intel, the leading manufacturer of computer processors, has recently added a couple of new chips to its quad-core, dual-core and Celeron ranges of products. The new chips come with rather decent prices and promising specs, especially considering they’re meant for the mainstream market segment. Ultimately, these additions will replace some of the company's current quad-core and dual-core offerings.

The newly released Q8200 is based on the 45nm manufacturing technology, and comes with a tray price of $224. It offers a 2.33GHz clock speed, 1333MHz FSB and a good 6MB of L2 cache. Given its specs and price tag, the new CPU will probably replace one of Intel's most successful quad-core processors, the Q6600. Unlike the new Q8200, the Q6600 (one of the company's first quad-core processors) is based on a 65nm fabrication process. It features 8M of L2 cache, and provides a factory-set core speed of 2.4GHz, while the FSB level is set at 1066MHz.

Intel's Q6600 is currently priced at $193, which makes it more than just a decent alternative for all those mainstream computer systems that can also do very well in some of the latest PC games. Since its release in 2006, this CPU's price tag has been significantly lowered, thus becoming a more affordable solution for a wider customer range.

The new quad-core processor from Intel could possibly make its way in some of the upcoming sub-$800 desktop computer systems, which will be offered to customers this Christmas season.

The new dual-core processor, the E5200, comes with a core speed of 2.5GHz, 2MB of L2 cache and a FSB of 800MHz. This is the first in the company's E5000 series of CPUs, and is placed at the very bottom of the company's Intel Core 2 Duo offering, as it comes with the smallest price tag in its category, set at $84. That's 25% cheaper than the E4500, which is the next in line, and provides roughly the same technical specs, but on a 65nm process.

The new Celeron D 450 processor has been designed to become the company's new flagship model, with a price tag of $53. Built on 65nm, it provides 512K of L2 cache, a core speed of 2.20GHz and a FSB of 800MHz.
