14 DAY TRIAL // 2010 is ending with two software releases from Intego, the mac security specialist. Remote Management Console 2, the company’s tool for remotely managing Intego software on multiple Macs, and VirusBarrier X6, the program that protects Macs from malware and network threats, have both been updated in a move that ensures a malware-free transition to 2011.
Remote Management Console 2
The first release Intego was keen to report on this month was Remote Management Console 2, a tool that lets administrators manage Intego software on any number of Macs, in different locations, all from a central administration console.
Version 2.0.1 of the software is a full rewrite, according to its makers.
The update, or should we say upgrade, introduces a new client-server architecture, greater flexibility in usage, a new interface and greatly improved reporting tools.
“Institutions with large numbers of Macs using Intego software will benefit from centralized administration of software, allowing administrators to establish and deploy their security policy quickly and easily,” the company said.
The tool allows administrators to create and load policies, configure individual settings and functions, and make changes to Intego programs on all managed computers.
Policies can be managed for individual workstations or for groups of workstations, Intego said.
The following tasks can be performed using Remote Management Console 2, according to the security software vendor:
- Manage Intego software on multiple Macs - Organize client computers by list or group - Apply security policies by list or group - Access information about managed client Macs - Keep Intego software and filters on client Macs up to date - Run manual tasks, such as malware scans, on client Macs - Monitor Intego software on client Macs, and access full logs
The administrator can contact client computers via a Remote Management Console server and set policies for both Intego’s VirusBarrier X6 and ContentBarrier programs, as well as for NetUpdate, the app that updates the company’s programs and filters when releases are made available.

VirusBarrier X6 10.6.10
Intego has also released an update to VirusBarrier X6, the company’s program that protects Macs from malware and network threats.
VirusBarrier X6 version 10.6.10 offers a number of enhancements and performance improvements, improves overall stability, supports general compatibility issues, and addresses a number of other minor issues, Intego said.
