Intego, the self-touted Macintosh security specialist, has announced that its software is now fully compatible with Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard. Apple is set to release the highly optimized OS to the public tomorrow, Friday 28, 2009.

"We’re very happy to see Snow Leopard released, and Mac users will be too," Laurent Marteau, CEO, Intego, says. "We have updated our software to make sure that, as soon as Snow Leopard is released, our users will be able to protect their Macs and remain safe from the dangers of the Internet. As always, our software is compatible with the latest version of Mac OS X on the day of its release."

The company then proceeds to listing several versions of Intego’s programs that are fully compatible with Snow Leopard, noting that single versions are part of Dual Protection or Internet Security Barrier bundles.

- NetBarrier X5, 10.5.4 - VirusBarrier X5, 10.5.9 - Personal Backup X5, 10.5.6 - ContentBarrier X5, 10.5.5 - Personal Antispam X5, 10.5.3 - FileGuard X5, 10.5.2 - VirusBarrier Server and VirusBarrier Mail Gateway, 10.5.9

The security expert advises users to update their Intego software before installing or upgrading to Snow Leopard, in order to ensure full compatibility. The Intego NetUpdate tool, provided with all Intego programs, allows eligible users to update their software for free. According to the company, all programs that have been made Snow Leopard-compatible will be available for download on or before Friday, August 28.

In related news, Advanced Threat researcher Feike Hacquebord has discovered several fake sites that allegedly give Mac users free copies of Mac OS X 10.6. However, when accessed, these malicious sites drop users a DNS changer Trojan named "OSX_JAHLAV.K" by the people at Trend Micro, providers of Internet security solutions. "Once executed, OSX_JAHLAV.K decrypts codes, which include a script that downloads other malicious scripts," according to the Trend Micro blog.
