Very popular among iOS users, Instapaper application has just been released in the Google Play store. Even though the creator of the software, Marco Arment wasn’t too excited to offer Android users the possibility to take advantage of Instapaper’s features, the application made its way onto Google Play.

Part of the reason Instapaper is now available for Android platform is the fact that Marco Arment has chosen Mobelux to develop the application.

According to Arment, it was never his intent to release an Android version of Instapaper as he didn’t believe there was a market on Google’s mobile platform that would justify creating a paid Instapaper app.

However, due to numerous emails from people who felt that such an application is an absolute must for Android devices, Arment took it further and appointed the folks at Mobelux, the same team that has worked on the Tumblr app, to create an Instapaper application for Android devices.

But what exactly is Instapaper? Android users who never heard of this application should know that Instapaper is a simple tool that allows them to save web pages for reading later.

Aside from that, the application has been optimized for readability on both tablets and phones screens. It is popular among blogs, newspapers, and magazines, and it’s very useful for long articles and blog posts that users don't have time to read.

The application comes with adjustable fonts, text sizes, line spacing, and margins, as well as a “Dark mode” and brightness control for night reading.

Although Instapaper for Android features automatic “Dark mode” switching for sunset times in user’s location, not all devices support it.

Keep in mind that the application will allow users to download up to 500 articles on their phone or tablet, and store unlimited articles on the Instapaper website.

Instapaper is now available for download via Google Play store for $2.99 USD and it should be compatible with most devices running Android 2.2 Froyo and up.
