Developer Marco Arment has announced plans to drop support for a couple of iOS devices in the next version of his popular reading application, Instapaper.

Apparently fed up with the crashes experienced by users of Instapaper on iPhone 3G and iPod touch 2G players, Arment reveals via the changelog for version 4.0.4 that he will begin to focus on devices that require more recent versions of Apple’s mobile operating systems.

“This will be Instapaper's last release to support these devices. The next major update will require iOS 5,” Arment states. The 4.0.4 update does fix a crash on iPhone 3G and second-generation iPod touches, but that doesn’t mean the software will be bug free from now on.
