Developer Tap Media has released Instamac, “a fun, elegant, and easy to use Instagram client for Mac.” It sells for $0.99 / €0,89 and it offers some neat desktop-specific functions, such as multi-touch gestures.

Released earlier this week in the Mac App Store, Instamac ports all the key features of Instagram to the desktop environment, adding a few new ones in the process.

Trackpad users can pinch with two fingers to resize images with ease, or they can highlight an image by pressing the spacebar to view it in full resolution.

You can read someone’s profile (bio, links to their images, and a follow button) by clicking on a person's user name, and search for friends or tags, as well as save your searches to a preferred location within the sidebar.

Instamac can be programmed to update your feed with images from the people you follow (often or rarely), and it includes a popular-image view, just like the iOS Instagram, as well as tags, slideshows, themes, and more.

Instamac supports notifications, pull-to-refresh, and multi-user accounts.

“From displaying a number badge on its icon, to showing a message in Mountain Lion's notification center, to Growl support, you'll always know when a new image comes in,” says Tap Media.

The developer also notes that version 1.1 has already been submitted to Apple for review, as there are some bugs that need immediate fixing. When it’s approved, the update will also deliver full Retina display support for new-generation Macs, “and some feature additions.”

“It will also include an even more elegant and easy to use design with a helpful getting started menu when you first open the application,” adds Tap Media.

The app requires OS X 10.7 Lion or later and a 64-bit processor.
