A certain MacBook Pro Graphics Firmware Update 1.0 is the latest available software update for Apple computers. The Mac maker claims that all 17-inch, unibody MacBook Pro users are advised to download and install the update. However, there are a few important things to be noted before proceeding with the installation.

A summary on Apple's Support section reveals that “you should download and install the MacBook Pro Graphics Firmware Update 1.0 on your MacBook Pro (17-inch, Early 2009) computer. The update addresses the possibility of vertical lines or distorted graphics on the display,” the company outlines.

Addressing graphical issues solely on the 17-inch unibody Pro, Apple says there are two parts to the update process. One is installing the firmware update application onto your hard drive. The second – using the firmware update application to update your graphics subsystem firmware.

“Before you begin, your MacBook Pro must be plugged into a working power source, and the battery must be charged to at least 50%,” Apple says. “Some USB and FireWire devices may prevent firmware updates from installing correctly,” the Mac maker explains, advising users to disconnect non-essential devices to optimize the installation process.

Also noted by the company responsible for the unibody family of notebooks is that this update requires a Macintosh-formatted disk or partition, as well as an administrator password. Lastly, before you do anything, close any open applications. OK, you're now ready to download the MacBook Pro Graphics Firmware Update 1.0. This will place a disk image that contains an installer into your default download location. If you downloaded the update using Safari, Safari will notify you that an application is contained in the image. You must click OK to continue. Also for Safari users, if "Open safe files after downloading" is selected in Safari preferences, the disk image file will mount by itself. If that preference is not enabled in Safari, users must double-click the disk image to mount it.
