Windows 8.1 Preview will come in several languages, but according to some leaked documents, in case users decide to install the update in a different language than the one already configured, the installer will remove all apps and settings.

Windows 8.1 Preview will be offered in Arabic, English, Chinese Simplified and Traditional, French, German, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Swedish, and Turkish.

And still, if you go for a language that’s different from the one installed on your system, you will lose all apps and settings. Files will stay untouched, Microsoft guarantees.

“If you install Windows 8.1 Preview in a language that’s different from the language currently on your PC, you can only keep your files, not your apps or settings,” Microsoft explains in some leaked docs.

In addition, if you’ve installed a language pack, the update automatically removes it. “If you’re running Windows 8 and have installed a language pack or a language interface pack, they’ll be removed when you install Windows 8.1 Preview,” the software maker noted.
