Well, the first thing you have to do before you get started with the Virtual PC 2007 installation is to actually download the software. Virtual PC 2007 is available as a free download from
Microsoft, but you can also access it right here on Softpedia via this link. Simply execute the Setup file and allow the process to run with elevated privileges. Follow the installation guide and click next to advance to the Install option in the Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 wizard.

With the installation out of the way, the first time you will launch Virtual PC 2007 you will be presented with the New Virtual Machine Wizard and the Virtual PC Console. We will focus on the Wizard because it will guide you to create and configure a new virtual machine. Users will also be able to add an already existing VM to the Virtual PC Console. A .VMC file will strode the virtual machine configuration. Click next.

The next panel will enable you to Add an existing virtual machine, to Use the default settings to create a virtual machine or to Create your custom virtual machine. Select the top most option and proceed. Now you are able to give your virtual machine a name and choose a location. By clicking next Virtual PC 2007 will inquire as to the operating system that you plan to install.

"Selecting an operating system here allows the wizard to recommend appropriate settings for this virtual machine. If the desired guest operating system is not listed select an operating system that requires an equivalent amount of memory or select Other," advises Microsoft. My recommendation is, considering that you have the necessary resources, to choose Windows Vista. It will allocate 512 MB of RAM and a virtual disk of 65,536 MB.

However, by clicking next, you will get the option to adjust the amount of RAM. As I have 2 GB I can go as high as 1534 MB, but I won't do it. Instead, I think that 512 MB is sufficient for what I have to do, I will leave it at that.

Next you will be presented with the Virtual Hard Disk Options. You will be able to choose between An existing virtual hard disk and A new hard disk. Choose new and move on. Here you can set up the size of the virtual hard disk and alter its location if that will be the case. Click Next and you are done. You have created a Virtual Machine in Windows Vista. You will now be able to see it in the Virtual PC console.

Um, that didn't help at all, how do you actually get a virtual set up running? I tried booting, but it just spins and asks for a bootable disk. I try Win 2000 Pro, but no go.

This guide makes it seem that you just download and hit a few options to get it going.

If you can't figure out how to boot from VPC then you shouldn't be using it

Not sure what this type of comment adds. I don't know either, - and had I known, I would have been happy to share :)
