Amiga-compatible computer operating system MorphOS is now fully supported on PowerMac 7,2 systems from the early 2000s. MorphOS 3.5.1 offers various bug fixes as well as other improvements.

On the MorphOS site, the development team makes the announcement official.

“The MorphOS development team is proud to announce the public release of MorphOS 3.5, which introduces support for PowerMac 7,2 machines and features various bug fixes as well as other improvements.”

The group directs users’ attention to the included release notes and other documentation. Other supported systems include eMac, iBook G4, Mac mini G4, Pegasos 1 & 2, PowerBook G4, Power Mac G4, and Power Mac G5.

“We strongly urge new users to carefully read our installation and troubleshooting guides before they attempt to install MorphOS for the first time,” reads a warning on the morphos-team.net site.

The team adds, “Existing users can upgrade via the familiar procedure but are encouraged to read the guides as well.”

At the time of this writing, we couldn’t download any of the MorphOS 3.5.1 images, likely because of a server glitch at MorphOS.

Not long after rolling out MorphOS 3.5, the team quickly amended the update with a point-one incremental update to alleviate some woes.

The team explains: “The MorphOS development team would like to announce the immediate availability of an update for MorphOS 3.5. All users who experienced boot problems after installing MorphOS 3.5 are advised to install MorphOS 3.5.1. The developers would like to apologize for any inconviences [sic] caused.”

Over at morphos-team.net/installation you will find instructions on how to boot and install MorphOS 3.5 on your beat-up Mac. A graphics card with at least 128MB is recommended.
