Instagram, the highly popular retro-style iPhone image creation and sharing application, is set to arrive on devices running under Google’s Android OS soon. The company’s Co-Founder Kevin Systrom has just confirmed such plans, though he did not offer specific info on a release date.

In fact, it appears that the mobile software is only in its early stages of development, and that it might take a while before a full walkthrough of the app is made available.

He did show a brief demo of the application, TechCrunch reports, only that he did not detail it. The app will be fully showcased at a later date.

However, Kevin Systrom did say that the application would have a lot to offer when made available for download. “In some ways, it’s better than our iOS app. It’s crazy,” he said.

Moreover, Co-Founder Mike Krieger said that people over at Android had been impressed with what the app could deliver on the operating system.

Until now, the company has been focused on delivering enhancements to the iOS version of the software, thus postponing plans to launch on more platforms.

“I don’t think it took us so long. We just had priorities. Had we tried to be both on Android and iPhone at the same time, it would’ve been tough to innovate in the way that we have,” he said.

For the time being, no specific info on the business model that the company will adopt with the Android platform has been unveiled.

The application does not include in-app advertising or in-app purchase capabilities for now. However, it has over 27 million registered users already, and should add even more of them as soon as the software lands on Android, which means a lot of opportunities to earn money.

“I do believe that Instagram has put a stake in the ground and we’re growing more quickly than anyone. Is there something in there we could do to make it a multi-billion dollar business? I think we can figure out something along the way,” Mike Krieger reportedly stated.
