Instagram is one of the most appealing ways to share photos with the loved ones straight from the mobile phone in your hand, and is now available on Android.

The mobile software was available only on iOS before, where it became widely popular, and its developers decided to bring it to Android as well.

The application enjoys over 30 million users on iOS, and is expected to deliver a great experience to Android users too. It can be downloaded and installed on all camera phones that run Android 2.2 or above and which offer support for OpenGL ES 2.

At the moment, the app can be downloaded all around the world and is available in English, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish.

The team was focused on delivering Android owners an experience similar to the one available for iOS users, but not all things will work as planned from day one.

“There are a few features that will not be included in the first version of the Android app (Tilt Shift/Blur, Share from Feed, Live Preview and Share to Flickr), but our upcoming versions are intended to bridge any differences,” the company explains.

Instagram was designed to output a maximum resolution of 2048x2048, but the phone’s camera and memory will influence that.

Some other features of the Android application include:

- 100% free custom designed filters and borders - Lux works its magic by making your photos more vibrant and brings out details in your photos you couldn't see before - Instant sharing to Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, and Foursquare (Flickr coming very soon) - Interact with friends through giving & receiving likes and comments - Works with Android versions 2.2 and above that support OpenGL ES 2 - Full front & back camera support

Through applying various filtered effects to their photos, users will breathe new life into them. They will also be able to easily share these photos with friends and family, all straight from their Android device.

“Share your photos in a simple photo stream with friends to see - and follow your friends' photos with the click of a single button. Every day you open up Instagram, you'll see new photos from your closest friends, and creative people from around the world,” the company notes.

Instagram for Android is available for download today through the Google Play store.
