Very different from Gears of War 2

The period before the start of this holiday season has been host to some very interesting battles between popular games, especially shooters. While there were multiplatform, sure to sell games like Call of Duty: World at War or Dead Space, the main focus was the fight between the sequels to some very popular exclusives to different consoles – Resistance, for the PlayStation 3, and Gears of War, for the Xbox 360.

While hardcore fans waged their war on various forums across the Internet, the games sold extremely well and, in the end, offered great experiences on their respective platforms. While Gears of War 2 was met with huge anticipation, it disappointed quite a few fans, who found that the changes employed by the Epic Games team shouldn't have been made, Resistance 2 really listened to its fan community and changed only the things players wanted.

One of the most important changes in this new game in the Resistance franchise is the fact that it has a co-op mode, but don't think of a normal one, which features two players, like in Gears of War, as this one can host up to eight players in a single game. Another aspect of this gameplay mode is the fact that it doesn't follow the single player campaign, but tells a completely different story, which takes place in parallel to the main one.

Ted Price, the president of Insomniac Games, the company behind this shooter franchise, talked about this interesting feature and said that the eight players were just a limit and didn't mean that you needed to gather seven friend just to play it through the co-op campaign.

"We learned, on Resistance: Fall of Man, that the single player campaign can be diluted a bit if you try to create a co-op playthrough. You don't have to gather them yourself; our matchmaking system will match you into games, if you are interested in just going online and finding a game. You don't have to have a party. But, the cool thing is, you have a choice: If you want to grab seven of your friends, then cool."

While it may look pretty tough at first glance, the eight-player co-op mode of Resistance 2 is pretty innovative and will certainly get a lot of people interested in this game, which was launched at the beginning of November. Let's hope that Insomniac will also employ such innovative features in other games.
