Insomniac Games, the creator of leading PlayStation 3 franchises like Ratchet & Blank and Resistance, has announced it has entered into an agreement with publisher Electronic Arts for a new multiplatform videogame set in a totally new universe, which will be delivered on the Xbox 360 home gaming console, as well as on the PlayStation 3 from Sony. No launch date for the fresh title has been announced but the two companies have said that the Burbank studio of Insomniac Games is in charge of the development process.

Ted Price, who is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Insomniac Games, stated, “Working with EA Partners allows us to extend the reach of our games to a multiplatform audience while retaining ownership of the intellectual property. We are excited and eager to introduce Insomniac to a new group of gamers while reinforcing to our loyal fans what makes our games special.”

David DeMartini, the senior vice president and general manager of EA Partners, also praised the deal, “Insomniac is renowned for their commitment to quality and their ability to create unique, exciting worlds for gamers to explore.”

Insomniac Games is said to have sold more than 35 million copies of titles like Spyro the Dragon, the Ratchet & Clank adventures and the Resistance shooter franchise. The company is not saying that it will abandon these properties but is also keen on showing off their potential in innovation by creating a whole new game world for their Electronic Arts deal.

For some time, there have been rumors that Sony and Insomniac are talking about a new Resistance title, to be announced at the E3 trade show and to be launched in late 2010 or early during next year. Neither Sony nor the developer has confirmed that they are working on a fresh shooter project.
