The rise of social gaming and the fact that most players are ready to engage with game spin-offs that exist on Facebook and other similar networks makes the future of the gaming space more exciting than ever, according to one leading developer.

Speaking to GameSpot Ted Price, who is the leader of Insomniac Games, has said, “Games in general are probably evolving faster than any other entertainment medium in the past 50 years. What’s really exciting is that for the past couple decades, the evolution was moving at a pretty steady pace, but in the past two years it has accelerated. And that’s brought tremendous opportunities for developers of all types.”

He added, “Most of us are trying to figure out exactly where we want to focus in terms of making our mark in social games, because there is so much experimentation happening every day, and there is no right way to do it.”

Insomniac has recently created a new third development team, named Click, which has been tasked with creating social and casual video games, although it has not yet announced any clear projects.

Insomniac is well known as being one of the most important developers who create titles exclusively for the PlayStation 3 home console from Sony, delivering both the shooter series Resistance and the Ratchet and Clank franchise, both of which got new installments this year.

Sony has said that it is interested in creating a space where smaller developers can create innovative projects which use new business models and has redesigned its Home social space to accommodate them in the near future.

It's not clear whether Sony and the developers it works with will be interested in getting their games on Facebook, where the likes of The Sims Online and the Zynga titles have managed to generate impressive revenue.
