After scoring great points on the market, Insignia is launching another SF looking DAP, keeping the same design line they used when developing the former Sport and Pilot devices. However, there is some new stuff about this rubber flavored DAP.
For starters, it favors other
features like portability and price over the design pattern, which is not necessary a bad choice. If the Sport and Pilot offered hints to guess their main target, this one leaves no clue whatsoever, but I guess it could be both active, dynamic people and lazybones.
Sadly, the manufacturers have packed the media device with only 1GB of internal memory storage capacity, which might be not enough for most of the customers. The Kix features a built-in USB connection, and it is said to be able to cope with about 30 hours after a single charge. It displays the minimum of info on its integrated 1-inch color OLED display and gets juiced up by a rechargeable lithium-ion battery.
Regarding the player's capabilities, just like with other popular versions introduced by Insignia, this one can deal with most important file formats on the market and even more. Moreover, the player is PlayForSure compatible and upgradeable to future formats and features. Not to mention that built-in USB connector for synching and charging means there's no cable to bring along.
Both MSC and MTP are supported. It can also read files in MP3, WMA ( DRM) and WAV. Extra specs mentioned on the list are the common FM tuner with 20 preset stations, as well as the capability to play audiobooks in the Audible format. If you're interested in purchasing one of these devices, you should know the player retails somewhere around 60 bucks a piece on many online web stores. Insignia Kix and scores again!
