We might just have a brand new horror franchise on our hands: two years after the release of the original comes “Insidious: Chapter 2” to take the crown at the US box office over the proverbially unlucky Friday the 13th weekend.

Starring Patrick Wilson and Rose Byrne, the horror movie received slightly less favorable reviews from critics than the original, but fared better in terms of ticket sales.

What both films have in common is the small budget.

However, “Chapter 2” made a killing in sales, ending the weekend with $41.1 million (€30.7 million), which is three times the amount the original made on its opening weekend and just a little bit over what it made during its entire theatrical run, the LA Times reports.

“Insidious” opened in 2010 to $13.3 million (€9.96 million) and went on the gross $54 million (€40.4 million). Clearly, “Chapter 2” is looking at a far brighter future ahead.

Above is the trailer for it, just in case you’re out of the loop. If you like what you see in it, make sure you check out the film in theaters.
