It's been quite a long time since humans have invented the wheel, but improvements are still much needed in transportation. The Energy Return Wheel is an innovative concept, aiming to replace the common pneumatic tires.

The ingenious system is expected to save a lot of money, coming along with improved handling and better gas mileage. The “wheel in wheel” system appears to conserve energy from bumps and put it back on the road, Inhabitat informs.

Instead of investing in expensive hybrids, buying a new set of ERW tires sounds like a much more convenient idea. Developers say that their invention can transform every car, truck and military vehicle, making it safer and more efficient.

Even though its manufacturers did not reveal how reliable their new product would be in a potential collision, they suggest that their ERW concept can save energy and green up transportation.

Since its manufacturing process involves less rubber, recycling the material would become one of their last concerns.
