Those who like playing chess and are also big fans of gardening can now combine these two passions in one, all thanks to Australian architects Elena Low and Kae Woei Lim.

These architects’ innovative chess set, pictured above, doubles as a mini-garden. Interestingly enough, chess players can choose which herbs they wish to plant, so each set is unique.

“The chess pieces allows nature lovers to integrate their favorite succulents or herbs into their game play,” the architects explain, as cited by Tree Hugger.

Furthermore, “Each chess piece can be planted with specific herbs or succulents to give them a level of individuality and personality. This also allows the player to assign unique textures, colors and smell to the pieces.”

Apart from being utterly adorable, Elena Low's and Kae Woei Lim's chess set is 3D printed, the same source tells us. What's more, it can be downloaded and made at home, so people who are fans of DIY projects are bound to also have a field day.

Together with the chess pieces, players can print their own portable chessboard skin, and thus be able to turn nearly all surfaces into their game area.

Head over to My Mini Factory if you feel like downloading the Micro Planter Chess Set and keep yourself busy growing chess pieces this holiday season.
